Why Bio-K9

Bio-K9 is a leader in training dogs in the field of biological detection. BioScent has trained dogs to detect cancer and other life threatening diseases. Heather Junqueira (Founder of Bio-K9) has published studies involving canine scent in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Medicine. Junqueira is one of the leading researchers in the field and was a guest speaker at an international conference in Paris in 2019.

Bio-K9 has a collaborative research agreement with The University of South Florida. Together they are looking for new innovative ways to detect COVID 19.

Why COVID-19?

  • Great economic impacts across all sectors

  • Limited number of vaccines available

  • The virus is mutating so vaccines, may be limited in their scope

  • Fear of unseen virus and the steps being taken to guard  against it are highly disruptive

  • It is perceived that providing a way to detect possible  virus carriers quickly, reliable and non-invasively is an  invaluable path for government and commerce to  continue.

Bio-K9’s Dogs

  • Bio-K9 has an extensive breeding program that is focused on breeding the best quality scent detection dogs in the field. The US Department of Agriculture is one of BioScent’s customers for scent detection dogs.

  • Bio-K9 predominantly uses Beagles, with a keen sense of smell, eagerness to work, and friendly disposition, beagles are the perfect breed for the job.

  • Bio-K9 currently has 64 dogs in training.
